Welcome to the DineKit help centre. This page answers the questions we hear most often and walks you through the quickest fixes when something is not behaving as expected. If you are brand new, you may want to start with our getting started guide first, then come back here whenever you get stuck.

Common questions

Is DineKit really free?

Yes, completely. DineKit is a free, open-source WordPress plugin with no paid tier, no locked features, and no trial period. You can download it from our download page, install it on as many sites as you like, and use every live feature without paying anything.

Do I need WooCommerce?

No. DineKit is deliberately self-contained and has zero dependencies. You do not need WooCommerce, a page-builder add-on, or any other plugin to display your menus, QR codes, allergen information, or opening hours.

Will it work with my theme or page builder?

It should. DineKit is designed to work with any theme — a modern block theme, a classic theme, or a page builder such as Elementor or Bricks. The menu inherits your theme’s own fonts and colours so it looks like a natural part of your site. Add it using the DineKit Menu block, or the

shortcode in almost any content area.

Can I take orders or bookings yet?

Not yet, and we would rather be honest about that than overpromise. The current version focuses on doing a few things really well: menus, QR code menus, all 14 UK allergens with a printable matrix, and opening hours. Online ordering, table bookings, scheduling and delivery are planned but are not live today. Follow their progress on our roadmap.

How do I change the menu’s colours or style?

Most styling happens automatically because DineKit adopts your theme’s typography and palette. Beyond that, you can set a single accent colour to match your brand. For a full walkthrough of the display options, see displaying your menu.

How do I edit a price?

Open the menu in your WordPress admin, find the item you want to change, and update its price field directly. Save the menu and the new price appears everywhere that menu is displayed, so you never have to edit individual pages.

How do allergens show to customers?

DineKit supports all 14 UK allergens. Once you tag an item, the relevant allergens are displayed clearly alongside it, so diners can see what a dish contains. You can also generate a printable allergen matrix for front-of-house staff and inspections.

Can I have more than one menu?

Yes. You can create multiple menus — for example separate breakfast, lunch, dinner and drinks menus — and choose which one to show on each page when you add the block or shortcode.

Does it slow my site down?

No. DineKit is intentionally lightweight and zero-dependency. It does not load jQuery or heavy front-end frameworks, so it adds very little to your page weight and should have no meaningful impact on your Core Web Vitals.

Is my data mine?

Absolutely. All of your menus, prices, allergen tags and opening hours are stored in your own WordPress database. There is no third-party service holding your content and no external account required — you own your data outright.

Troubleshooting

Why isn’t my menu showing on the page?

Nine times out of ten it is one of three things. First, make sure the menu itself is published and not left as a draft. Second, confirm you have added the DineKit Menu block or the

shortcode to the page and saved it. Third, check the block or shortcode has the correct menu selected. If all three are correct, view the page in a private browser window to rule out caching, and clear any caching plugin or CDN you run.

My colours or fonts look wrong — why?

DineKit inherits styling from your active theme, so if the menu looks different after a theme change, that is expected. Set your accent colour again if it has reset, and clear your cache so the latest styles load. If a page builder is overriding the appearance, check whether it is applying its own typography rules to the container the menu sits in.
