Displaying Your Menu: Block, Shortcode & Layouts

DineKit gives you two ways to put your menu on any page of your WordPress site: the DineKit Menu block in the block editor, or the

shortcode for the classic editor, page builders and widgets. Both draw from the same menu data, so you can pick whichever suits how you build your pages. This guide walks through each method, explains the three layouts, and covers the display options for images, dietary tags and allergens.

Block or shortcode: which should you use?

Both methods produce the same mobile-friendly, theme-aware output, so the right choice comes down to how you edit pages. Use the DineKit Menu block if you build pages with the standard WordPress block editor — it gives you a visual panel to point-and-click your choices, and you can preview the menu as you edit. Use the

shortcode if you work in the classic editor, a page builder (such as Elementor or Beaver Builder), a text widget, or anywhere the block editor is not available.

Adding the DineKit Menu block

1. Open the page or post where you want the menu, then click Edit.
2. Click the + (Add block) button where you want the menu to appear.
3. Search for DineKit Menu and select it to insert the block.
4. With the block selected, open the settings panel on the right. Choose which menu to display and, if you wish, which sections to show.
5. Pick a layout and toggle the display options for images, dietary tags and allergens.
6. Click Update or Publish to save, then view the page on desktop and mobile.

The block’s settings panel is also the quickest way to see the exact option names available in your version of DineKit, since labels may vary slightly between releases.

The three layouts explained

• Classic list — a clean, traditional single-column list of dishes with prices. Ideal for longer menus and a familiar restaurant feel.
• Card grid — each dish sits in its own card in a responsive grid. Best when you want to feature dish images and give a modern, visual experience.
• Compact — a condensed, chalkboard-style layout that fits a lot into a small space. Great for daily specials, drinks lists or sidebars.

Display options: images, tags and allergens

Whichever method and layout you choose, you can turn individual details on or off: images (the Card grid makes the most of these), dietary tags (markers such as vegetarian, vegan or gluten-free) and allergens. Set these in the block’s settings panel, or via the equivalent shortcode attributes shown in the helper.

Mobile-friendly and SEO-friendly by default

Every layout is mobile-friendly and adapts to your theme’s fonts and colours. DineKit also outputs structured Menu and MenuItem schema, which helps search engines understand your menu — included automatically whenever your menu is displayed. Once your menu is live, make it easy to reach at the table with QR code menus.
